Week 2 in the NFL began with a fun game on Thursday night between the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals. There is still a full slate of games on Sunday and Monday.
If you’re looking for safe week two NFL bets, you’re in the right spot. Last week I got off to a nice start with the Chiefs and Texans getting us over a 53.5 total, but the Eagles burned me with a collapse after going up 17-0 against Washington. That said, I see even better wagers to target going into week two. After a reasonably successful first week (+2.8 units) in the prop bet market, we are back with our plays for Week 2 of the NFL season. If you’re looking for safe week two NFL bets, you’re in the right spot.
Last week I got off to a nice start with the Chiefs and Texans getting us over a 53.5 total, but the Eagles burned me with a collapse after going up 17-0 against Washington.
That said, I see even better wagers to target going into week two. If you’re looking for a little stability with your week two NFL betting, consider my week two NFL locks.
One of the safest week two NFL wagers feels like the Over in this Buccaneers vs. Panthers game. It’s entirely possible the Tampa Bay defense puts the clamps down in a must-win game, but I’m not sure I’m seeing it.
To be fair, the Panthers are also 0-1 and will want to avoid an ugly 0-2 start. And defensively, I don’t see either side really having the capacity to shut anyone down.
Teddy Bridgewater offers stability for a suddenly explosive and versatile Panthers offense that scored 30 points in week one. Carolina’s defense was the problem, as they allowed 34 points to the Raiders.
If Las Vegas can do that, just imagine what a hopefully more dialed in Tom Brady can do in this matchup. Whether the Bucs stomp on the Panthers or we get a spirited shootout, I think the Over is safe in this one.
San Francisco 49ers (-7) -104
The Jets looked horrible in week one and understandably were among the worst performers in our week one NFL grades. Sam Darnold doesn’t have much help, but he looked uncomfortable, and I don’t know if we can hope for improvement against the 49ers.
San Francisco dropped a tough one at home to a rising Cardinals team, but that doesn’t mean we mail it in on San Francisco. Darnold isn’t the dual threat passer Kyler Murray is, so I can’t envision the 49ers having as much trouble in week two.
With the Niners set to have a better defensive effort – if not a flat out dominant one – the offense should be set up to succeed. New York’s defense was also pretty listless en route to a 21-0 hole in week one, and the 49ers should have their way in this matchup.
I’d be less thrilled if the line moves too much, but getting the 49ers to win by a touchdown feels like a major discount.
Detroit looks like a hot mess after yet another coined collapse. They were roasting the rival Bears in week one, and then suddenly they got cute in basically every regard and gave up a 17-point lead.
The Lions didn’t play as bad of a game as this meltdown would indicate, but it’s still a bad look. They did something similar in week one last year and had a variety of collapses during an abysmal 3-12-1 campaign in 2019.
Two of them came against the Packers team they face this week, too. I know, none of this builds up a strong argument that we can safely bet on the Lions against the spread this week.
But this is what Detroit does. They get out to solid leads, and then they cave. Or they look incompetent, and they bounce back and give the best of teams a tough out.
Ny Post Nfl Picks Week
Green Bay looked awesome in week one, but there is something to be said about desperation. The Lions will be looking at an 0-2 hole, and they’ve played the Packers extremely well for years now.
The Packers may still win, but don’t be shocked when the Lions give them all they can handle and beat this spread.
New England Patriots (+4) -104
Lastly, let’s buy into the Patriots, shall we? Their week one win over Miami wasn’t dominant in score, but the Pats played a sound defensive game, and executed their offense enough to win by 10 points.
Running Cam Newton 15 times a game may not be sustainable, but on paper, New England has the tools to play ball control offense, win at the goal-line, and stifle your offense.
Russell Wilson looked like a legit NFL MVP candidate in a stellar week one performance, but that was against a bad Falcons defense. Something tells me he’ll have a slightly tougher time against a Bill Belichick defense.
On the other side, the Seahawks didn’t fare too well against Atlanta’s passing game, and benefited greatly from playing with a lead. Against a smarter Patriots team, their lack of a reliable pass rush may be much more prevalent.
Maybe Seattle squeaks out the win to get to 2-0, but the Pats have a new life with Cam Newton running the show. New England feels like a pretty good bet to keep this close, or even get the win.
Best Nfl Bets Week 2
There are so many week two NFL bets to consider, but these four wagers stand out as the safest in my opinion.
New England is being disrespected as underdogs in this spot, the Lions aren’t getting enough credit for how competitive they can be, and we have two very beatable game totals.
